The Global Fund to
Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) launched of the Global Fund’s Regional
Results Report for Asia with title “Making a Difference” during the ICAAP10. By
the end of 2010, Global Fund-supported programs in the Asia Region were providing
antiretroviral therapy (ART) to 470,000 people and provided 77,000 HIV-positive
pregnant women with antiretroviral prophylaxis for PMTCT. Largely 290 million
condoms and 29 million insecticide-treated nets were distributed, and detected
and treated 8.5 million TB cases in this region. The way toward, by then end of
2010 the Global Fund approved 223 grants in Asia Region, worth a total of US$
5.1 billion. The supported programs are estimated to have saved 3 million
lives. 83% of the assessed grants were found to be “performing well”, the
report read.
